Problems Treated

The doctor and nurses we have at Skinfresh have numerous treatment approaches that can treat many skin imperfections caused by the sun.

Sun exposure causes many changes to our skin that we think of as a normal part of ageing. Over time, the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) light damages the elastin in your skin, causing skin imperfections.

Common Sun Damage problems we treat include:

  • Scaly, sun-damaged skin
  • Suspicious moles
  • Treat areas such as; face, arms, legs, lips, and body.

Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a treatment process that uses photosensitising (skin light sensitising) agents, light and oxygen to create a reaction within the skin that selectively destroys abnormal and damaged skin cells.

By destroying only the damaged cells, this treatment has minimal side effects and down time, healing is usually rapid and scarring has never been reported. This treatment also provides an excellent cosmetic result by increasing collagen and reducing fine wrinkles, redness and brown patches.

Photodynamic Therapy can treat skin imperfections such as:

  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Aged skin
  • Large pores
  • Fine lines
  • Pigmentation – superficial.

Daylight Photodynamic Therapy

Daylight Photodynamic Therapy is the newest innovation in the area of Photodynamic therapy that has made this treatment efficient more comfortable and far less onerous than the traditional treatments of the past. The huge benefit of this treatment is that it can treat large areas easily. Once you've had the treatment the treated skin becomes red, and then abnormal skin cells flake off over the next 7-10 days, leaving healthier, smoother, clearer skin beneath.

The process of Daylight Photodynamic therapy involves:

  • Preparation of the skin +/- a Hydrafacial starting two weeks beforehand
  • On treatment day, the skin is cleansed and degreased and lotion is applied to the treatment area - this absorbs only into damaged skin cells
  • You go out into the daylight for two hours light exposure to activate the cream
  • Return to the nurse who manages you further, then go home.
